Nanao in semifinals

New Delhi: Thokchom Nanao Singh (48kg) assured himself of a medal after advancing to the semifinals but it was curtains for Balwinder Beniwal (69kg), who bowed out with a quarterfinal loss in the inaugural AIBA youth World boxing championship in Guadalajara, Mexico.

Nanao blanked Uzbekistan’s Jasurbek Latipov 6-0 in the last-eight bout to enter the medal rounds. However, Balwinder lost to Germany’s Satula Abdulai 5-16.

India stands 11th in the team rankings with 10 points. Russia leads the rankings with 21. — PTI
