COIMBATORE: The Coimbatore District Small Industries’ Association has welcomed the clarification by the Tamil Nadu Electricity Regulatory Commission (TNERC) regarding disconnecting service connection for High Tension or Low Tension Current Transformer consumers who are found violating the restriction on power consumption during peak hours. According to K. Ilango, president of the association, the Tamil Nadu Electricity Board had warned HT and LT CT consumers of disconnection if they were found using grid power during peak hours. PaymentIn a recent observation, the commission said this violated Section 56 of the Electricity Act 2003, which authorised the licensee to disconnect electricity supply only in the event of default in payment of electricity charges. Mr. Ilango said several units, especially the small-scale ones that did not have generator sets, were hit as they were unable to operate during the peak hours using grid power. Sometimes these units suffered from power disruption later in the night and thus, they were unable to run the units for nearly six hours or more. With this clarification, the units would be able to operate during the peak hours using grid power. If the board disconnected electricity supply, it would be violating the law, he said.
