Contributions continue to pour in
CHENNAI: With several public personalities continuing to contribute to the Sri Lankan Tamils Relief Fund, the collections stood at about Rs.3.25 crore on Thursday.
Daily Thanthi managing director B. Sivanthi Adityan and Bharath University-Lakshmi Ammal Educational Trust contributed Rs.10 lakh each. Actor Nayanathara, industrialists Pradip D. Kothari and N. Jayamurugan and Fire and Rescue Services Department donated Rs.5 lakh each. An official release clarified that the government had not entrusted any individual, firm or organisation with the responsibility of mobilising relief materials. So, instruments such as cheques and demand drafts should be drawn in favour of Sri Lankan Tamils Relief Fund and sent to the Chief Secretary, Government of Tamil Nadu, Secretariat, Chennai 600 009.
Those who want to make donations in kind have been advised to avoid sending perishable goods and clothes. Grains such as rice and pulses were required more, the release added. — Special Correspondent
