Congress using MIM to block Telangana: BJP

HYDERABAD: BJP leaders Bangaru Laxman and Bandaru Dattatreya have accused the Congress of using MIM leader Asaduddin Owaisi’s views on Telangana as a pretext to defer its stand on the issue.

At a press conference here on Wednesday, they reiterated that the party was ready to support if a Bill on the State’s bifurcation was introduced in the winter session of Parliament.

They alleged that the government had taken MIM support to suppress the pro-Telangana agitation in 1969 and handed over Dar-us-salaam to that party as quid pro quo. Even now the Congress might have had some agreement with MIM, they charged, and wanted it to be made public.

The Congress had been deceiving the people of the region since 1956. The latest move to use MIM as a “stumbling block” was part of the same strategy.

They criticised the Left leaders for meeting Praja Rajyam president Chiranjeevi after repeatedly stating that they would clarify their views only after that party announced its policies.

Similarly, they wanted to know from the Left the difference in the economic policies between the TDP and the Congress, as decisions on setting up SEZs and relaxing the excise policy were taken by the previous government.
