Two women duped of jewellery

Staff Reporter

BANGALORE: Two persons diverted the attention of two women and took away gold ornaments in Padmanabhanagar and Basavanagudi on Wednesday.

The two got away with two gold chains and four gold bangles from the house of Jayaram, a doctor, on 18th Cross, Padmanabhanagar. They told Dr. Jayaram’s wife, Koushalya, that they wanted their children to join the music school run by her. They paid an advance and Ms. Koushalya went inside the house to bring the change.

Ms. Koushalya came out with money along with her sister-in-law Meera Krishnan. As she was giving the money, one of the two persons expressed his desire to touch the necklace and bangles of Ms. Koushalya and Ms. Krishnan stating it to be auspicious. The two went away with the ornaments soon after Ms. Koushalya and Ms. Krishnan handed over the valuables. The Banashankari police have registered a case.

Adopting a similar modus operandi, two persons went away with gold chain worth Rs. 60,000 of H.T. Shakuntala Gupta and Rs. 2,000 from the shop that she runs on D.V.G. Road in Basavanagudi.

According to the police, two persons came to Gupta Stores that is attached to her house.

They asked for two cigarettes and paid Rs. 500. When Ms. Gupta refused, the two asked her to give a packet of cigarettes. She went inside the house and came back with the remaining amount. Before she could give the amount, the two told her that her gold chain was auspicious and wanted to touch it. The two persons went away with the gold chain and the cash.

The Basavanagudi police have registered a case.

Fight

Burning crackers on Deepavali led to a dispute between neighbours in R.K.S. Nagar in Sriramapuram police station limits on Wednesday night.

The police said an 18-year-old boy was burning crackers along with his friends near the house. Accidentally, a spark from the cracker hit another boy, who is his neighbour. The two had heated exchanges and the 18-year-old hit the other with a stone. The injured boy went home, informed his parents and went to the police and lodged a complaint.

Later, the two families were involved in a brawl. Around 10 persons were injured and were treated at a local hospital. The police have registered the complaint filed by both the parties.
