Jewellery looted from finance firm

Staff Reporter

BANGALORE: In a daylight robbery, a gang of five overpowered officials of a finance company in the city and fled with diamond, gold and silver ornaments estimated at Rs. 50 lakh.

The incident occurred at Mannapuram Finance on Dr. Rajkumar Road, 9th Main, in Srinivasa Nagar around 3.30 p.m. on Wednesday. Mannapuram Finance is a part of Manappuram General Finance and Leasing Ltd.

According to the police, under the ‘gold loan’ project of the company, around 800 people had pledged their ornaments with the company. They were kept in several lockers of the company. Around 3.30 p.m., dacoits entered the office in the guise of customers. At that time, except for seven employees of the company, there were no customers.

The accused persons locked the main door and threatened the staff at knifepoint and snatched the keys to the lockers. The accused stabbed two employees of the company when they resisted. Later they locked up all the employees in a room and looted jewellery worth Rs. 50 lakh.

The accused were inside for nearly an hour.

A senior officer of the Bangalore City Police said the company had neither appointed armed security personnel nor installed CCTVs.

Police Commissioner Shankar Bidari, Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) S. Ravi and other officer inspected the spot.

The police have collected fingerprints and footprints from the scene of crime.

The Hanumanthnagar police have registered a case of dacoity.

The police suspect that company employees could be behind the incident.

They are planning to collect the fingerprints of all employees of the company on Thursday.
