Oktopals qualifies for main phase

KOCHI: Leg-spinner Ramesh took four wickets for 15 runs as Thrissur’s Oktopals CC defeated Chittoor CC (Ernakulam) by 14 runs in a first phase semifinal of the 58th Pooja all-India cricket tournament at the Tripunithura Palace Oval on Wednesday.

Chasing 173 for victory, Chittoor was tottering at 44 for seven at one stage before recovering to post a decent total. But in the end, it was not enough.

The victory helped Oktopals grab one of the two final phase berths in the tournament.

The scores: Oktopals CC 172 in 42.3 overs (Digin 44, Sherin 51) bt Chittoor CC 158 in 43.3 overs (Jismon James 42, Ramesh four for 15). — Principal Correspondent
