Ivy League emerges winner

HYDERABAD: Ivy League Academy (Shamirpet) won the CBSE South Zone inter-schools hockey championship with a 6-1 win over Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan in the final in Tadepalligudem (West Godavari), according to information received here.

Fahad Hussain and Hemanth Kotari struck once each while Asim Raza Rizvi and Nisar Ahmed twice each for the winners. The first five goals came in the first 10 minutes.

Earlier, Ivy League defeated Chinmaya International School (Coimbatore) in the semi-final.

By virtue of this win, Ivy League will take part in the CBSE Nationals to be held soon.

SBH enters final

State Bank of Hyderabad recorded a solitary-goal win over EME Centre in the first semi-final of Susai Sr. memorial football tournament, organised by Shastri Soccer Club, at Trimulgherry Village Grounds here.

The match-winner came in the 19th minute of first-half when inside-right Khiser Ali was bang on target with a long-ranger. The Bankmen owed their victory also to the fine performance in the defence by Prakash and Johnson.

Rohit slams century

Century by Rohit Reddy (102) helped Cal Public School record a thumping, 182-run win over Meridian School in the Glendale Trophy inter-schools cricket tournament here.

The scores (of matches held in last two days): Cal Public School 226 for three in 20 overs (J. P. Vishal 74, Rohit Reddy 102) bt Meridian School 44 in 10.2 overs (Chaitanya Reddy four for four, B. Vivek three for one).

St. Peter’s School 116 in 17.1 overs (Ranjit 36, Amay 36, Nandu three for 17, G. M. Sandeep five for 27) lost to Gowtam Model School 117 for six (Arun Deva 56).

Kennedy High School 121 for nine (Jeevan Rathod 53, Anirudh five for 19) lost to Jubilee Hills Public School 122 for four in 17 overs (Praneet 43).

Sreenidhi International 144 for five (Srikanth 97) bt Meridian School 118 (Abhijit three for 20, Srikanth three for 18).

International 110 for three lost to Gowtham School 114 for five (Arun Deva 39 not out).

Manish moves up

Manish defeated G. Balasubrahmanyam 9-6 in the men’s singles pre-quarter-final of the Tranworld Sports Foundation masters tennis tournament (35 years & above) at Indira Park here.

The results: 35 years & above: Pre-quarterfinals: Sridhar bt G. Sudheer 9-4; C. S. Reddy bt M. V. Suryanarayana 9-2; Arjun bt Rajender Nimje 9-1; Murali bt Vijay 9-1; Raj Turlapati bt Dinesh 9-4; Raghu bt Ankit 9-0; Manish bt G. Balasubrahmanyam 9-6; U. Srinath bt J. Venkat Ramana 9-7.

Selection trials

District Sports Authority of Ranga Reddy will organise tournament-cum-selection trials in kabaddi (Saroornagar Stadium) and kho kho (Uppal Stadium) for boys and girls (under-16 years) on October 31 from 9.00 a.m. Interested may contact District Sports Development Officer for further details.

Shivlal to be feted

Hyderabad Cricket Association will felicitate its secretary N. Shivlal Yadav on being elected unanimously as vice-president of Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on October 30 at 7. 00 p.m. at Rajiv Gandhi Stadium (Uppal), according to D. S. Chalapathi, joint secretary of HCA. All the office-bearers and members are to attend the function.

Cricket selections

Open selections for senior women cricketers from the City and the Telangana districts will be organised by Hyderabad Cricket Association at Gymkhana Grounds on November 3 from 2.30 p.m. to pick the State team for the South Zone inter-state championship to be held in Anantapur from November 21.

Each district can send three of their best players for the selections. The players are to bring copies of date of birth certificates for age verification.

South Zone carrom

East Godavari District Carrom Association will organise 10th South Zone championship in Town Hall (Kakinada) from November 1 to 4 in six events — men’s and women’s singles, doubles and junior boys’ and girls’ singles.
