NEW DELHI: The Election Commission on Wednesday announced that the Assembly polls in Madhya Pradesh will be held on November 27, instead of November 25. For Mizoram, the polls will be on December 2, instead of November 29. The Commission had announced the earlier schedule for General Elections to the State Legislative Assemblies of Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Mizoram, Rajasthan and NCT of Delhi on October 14. Security aspectAfter reassessing the time required for proper de-mobilisation and transportation of police forces to Madhya Pradesh after elections in Chhattisgarh are over on November 20, the Commission decided to re-fix the poll date in Madhya Pradesh to November 27. In Mizoram, the poll date was earlier announced as November 29, which falls on a Saturday. It had been brought to the notice of the Commission that casting votes on that day would be inconvenient for a segment of people for whom the day had special significance. The Commission, having considered it, decided to re-fix the poll date in Mizoram to December 2. The counting of votes in both States will take place on December 8 and the poll process will be completed before December 13, says the statement.
