Chitradurga: At least three people were killed and 40 others were injured, 15 of them seriously, when the private bus in which they were travelling plunged into a culvert near Uchchavanahalli, about three kilometres from Hiriyur on Wednesday. The deceased have been identified as Keshavamurthy (25), Timmaiah (50) and Kenchappa (45). The bodies have been shifted to Hiriyur Government hospital while the injured have been shifted to Chitradurga district hospital. The police said the Hiriyur-bound bus was coming from Hosadurga, when the driver lost control of the vehicle and hit the protective wall of the culvert. The bus was reportedly overcrowed. The exact cause of accident is yet to be ascertained. However, the police did not dismiss the possibility of some technical fault. A case has been registered.
