Reduced to ashes: People collecting their belongings after a major midnight fire ravaged their homes at Jahangirpuri in the Capital on Tuesday. NEW DELHI: About 150 shanties were gutted in a fire that broke out at Jehangirpuri here late on Tuesday night. According to the Delhi Fire Service, 25 fire tenders were pressed into action and the blaze was brought under control in about three hours. Alleging that the fire-tenders did not reach the spot in time, angry residents pelted stones at the firemen injuring four of them. They also set the vehicle of the area Station House Officer on fire. He along with three other policemen was also injured in the stone pelting. The injured were taken to Babu Jagjivan Ram Hospital for treatment. The police have initiated investigations into the cause of the fire. They have also registered a case of rioting and arrested eight of the accused. Deputy Commissioner of Police (North-West Delhi) N.S. Bundela said: “We are in the process of identifying the others involved in the rioting.” In the early hours of Wednesday, another fire broke out in a paint factory at Azadpur. However, no one was injured.
