NEW DELHI: To mark United Nations Day, a special event is being organised jointly by the Indian Federation of United Nations Associations (IFUNA) and Bharat Soka Gakkai (BSG) at V.K. Krishna Menon Bhawan on Bhagwan Das Road here on Friday. The theme for this year’s event is “Environmental Sustainability as an Essential Tool for Poverty Alleviation”. The event offers an opportunity for reiterating the connecting link between environmental sustainability and poverty alleviation and finding ways and means to achieve success in both concerns. Both IFUNA and BSG are non-government organisations working for establishing peace and understanding. BSG is the Indian affiliate of the Soka Gakkai International, a global association of grassroots organisations that seeks to promote values of respect for all people through the medium of peace, culture and education. Through a wide array of activities, the SGI seeks to foster awareness of the social and environmental responsibilities for the future of our planet. What sets these initiatives apart is the humanitarian spirit of reaching out through heart-to-heart dialogue as practiced by the founding president of SGI, Dr. Daisaku Ikeda.
