Chamarajanagar: The Suvarnavathy and Chikkahole reservoirs in Chamarajanagar taluk are almost full owing to heavy rain in their catchment areas last week. Water will be released into the Suvarnavathy reservoir through a link canal when the level touches 240 feet in the Chikkahole reservoir. Canals under the Suvarnavathy reservoir irrigate 16,694 acres of land, while the left bank and Bandigere canals of the Chikkahole reservoir cover 406 acres. In the wake of the heavy inflow into the Chikkahole reservoir, 150 cusecs of water has been released into the Suvarnavathy reservoir. At present, the water-level in the Suvarnavathy reservoir is 2454 feet as against the maximum level of 2455 feet. The water-level in the Chikkahole reservoir is 2474 feet as against the maximum level of 2473 feet. People living on the banks of the Chikkahole have been told to move to safe places as water is being released from the reservoir. Steps have been taken to release water through the canals to fill the Malladevanahalla, Hebbahalla, Putttanapura and nine other tanks in the command area of the reservoir, according to sources.
