TRS threatens to mobilise farmers

Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD: The Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) has threatened to mobilise farmers of Warangal and Nalgonda districts if the State government did not stop Dummugudem project in Khammam and instead take up construction of a barrage across Godavari at Kanatanapalli village of Eturunagaram mandal in Warangal district.

The barrage was proposed by experts of the Institution of Engineers to divert 50 tmcft water from Godavari to the Kakatiya canal that serviced ayacut in Warangal and Nalgonda.

Another 50 tmcft water was also proposed to be carried from the barrage to Hyderabad for drinking purposes, TRS MP B. Vinod Kumar told a news conference here on Wednesday.

The MP condemned the overlooking of the institution’s report by the government.

The MP said he had addressed a letter to Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy to reconsider the proposals.
