Uddhav to Lalu: keep off Maharashtra

Special Correspondent

No need to join hands with Raj

Sena capable of protecting Marathi manoos

MUMBAI: Shiv Sena executive president Uddhav Thackeray on Tuesday asked Railway Minister Lalu Prasad not to set Mumbai on fire by sitting in Bihar. There was nothing funnier than Mr. Prasad speaking about law and order, he said and warned him and other Bihar leaders not to meddle in Maharashtra’s affairs.

At a press conference he convened here to respond to Mr. Prasad’s demand for a ban on the Sena after Monday’s killing of a Bihari youth in Mumbai. Mr. Thackeray said the leaders from Bihar should worry about their State and why Biharis were migrating for jobs. These leaders should be held responsible for the migration and lack of jobs, he said.

The Shiv Sena, whose Marathi agenda has been aggressively taken over by Maharashtra Navnirman Sena’s Raj Thackeray, has been reiterating its commitment to the Marathi cause. The Shiv Sena was formed over 40 years ago to unite the Marathi manoos, said Mr. Uddhav Thackeray. He reiterated that the party on its own was capable of safeguarding their interests, and said there was no need for it to join hands with Mr. Raj Thackeray on this issue or present a united front.

Referring to Monday’s killing, Mr. Uddhav Thackeray said: “How is anyone allowed to roam around in the city with a gun? What can the police do when confronted with such a situation? It was unfortunate that this happened. It was not known what was on his mind.”

“Killing in Bihari style”

However, the Shiv Sena mouthpiece Saamna called the victim Rahul Raj Kundan Prasad Singh “a terrorist from the Bihari mafia and said that he was shot dead in Bihari style.”
