BANGALORE: There is a nip in the air. Bangaloreans will heave a sigh of relief as temperatures are expected to drop further over the next week, putting an end to the prolonged summer this year. Even if temperatures during the day remained more or less stable (around 29 degrees Celsius), nights have been getting successively colder. Woollens and quilts came flying out on Sunday night as the mercury dipped to 19 degrees Celsius. Going by the minimum temperatures recorded on Monday and Tuesday — 14.7 degrees Celsius and 15.4 degrees Celsius respectively — the winter seems to be on its way. Sources in the Department of Meteorology said that these temperatures are normal for this time of the year. “Winter usually sets in by beginning of November. Drop in temperatureThe temperatures have dropped significantly and will continue to do so over the next week,” an official in the department said. Last week saw the city being lashed by rain almost every other day. However, Bangaloreans got to celebrate a dry Deepavali as the rain gave the city a miss on Monday and Tuesday. The Department of Meteorology does not forecast any rains inthe city for the coming week.
