Cash, jewellery gutted

CHENNAI: Cash and jewellery worth Rs.4 lakh were gutted in a fire that was allegedly triggered by a cracker in a house at Valasaravakkam on Monday.

The police said Krishnan of Bhajanaikoil Street lodged a complaint that a ‘rocket’ let off by some unidentified persons broke into the house and burst, setting clothes, paper and other combustible materials afire. A total of Rs.1.5 lakh in cash and 20 sovereigns of ornaments were damaged.

The Valasaravakkam police have registered a case.

Kancheepuram

staff reporter writes:

In Kancheepuram, thatched portions of a house was damaged in a fire that broke out due to bursting of a fire cracker in Kancheepuram town on Tuesday morning.

On receiving the information, a fire tender was rushed to the spot and the blaze was brought under control within few minutes. Apart from the thatched roof, two handlooms on the premises were also destroyed in the blaze, sources said.
