Co-operative Bank extends Rs. 9.43-lakh micro credit

TIRUCHI: The Tiruchi District Central Cooperative Bank (TDCCB) through its various branches here has extended micro credit for joint liability groups to the tune of Rs. 9.43 lakh in the recent past, the Special Officer of the Bank, Brinda has said.

Speaking at a special members education programme organised jointly by the central cooperative bank’s Woraiyur, Tollgate and Karumandapam branches here recently, Ms. Brinda said opportunities have been created for the small traders to avail the micro credit through the joint liability groups. The TDCCB through its branches had so far formed 79 micro credit joint liability groups and had extended the credits to 205 members of 42 groups. Highlighting the advantages of the scheme, the Joint Registrar of Cooperative Societies, Tiruchi Region, Rama Jayam Pandian said the micro traders instead of approaching the private lenders could form joint groups among themselves and get loans through cooperative banks. The scheme was also aimed at inculcating the habit of savings in banks among the small traders and improve their economic lot.

The General Manager of the bank, T. Veeravinodhan said that the traders could avail the micro credit either in groups or in individual capacity.
