Coimbatore: City Police Commissioner K.C. Mahali and Assistant Commissioner of Police (Intelligence) A.S. Nandakumar visited accident-prone spots in the city on Tuesday.

Mr. Mahali first visited the LIC Road that stretches from Avanashi Road LIC office towards Nanjappa Road to get a first hand knowledge about the traffic flow near the Central Jail.

He directed the officials to erect a ‘gentle’ speed breaker to slow down the speed of vehicles while negotiating a blind curve near jail.

Later, he visited the accident-prone pockets near Nehru Stadium, Avarampalayam Road and other places in the city.

The Commissioner said that the objective of the visit was to study the root cause of the problem and initiate temporary remedial measures such as installation of centre median, barricades, and speed breakers to regulate the flow of traffic.

The micro level traffic planning study had already helped in bringing down the fatal accident rate on roads in the city. Almost five major roads had become accident-free in September. Contining with the programme would help in ensuring long term results, he said.
