“Introduce additional train”

Special Correspondent

PUDUKOTTAI: The Advani Peravai has urged the Railways to introduce an additional train in the Pudukottai – Chennai broad gauge section to ease congestion. At present only the Chennai – Rameswaram – Chennai express is being operated via Pudukottai. This train arrives in the wee hours and hence is of not much use to the people of Pudukottai district, a resolution adopted at the state office-bearers meeting of the party held here recently said. It pleaded for the operation of another train service in this section.

The meeting said though it is more than a year since the Tiruchi – Pudukottai – Karaikudi gauge conversion works were completed, it had not been brought to full use. Only one train was being operated both in the morning and evening hours in this section. The railways spent huge amount for the BG conversion works and the development of railway stations en-route. It should come forward to operate more trains in this section, it added.
