All-round show by Renjith

KOCHI: Mediumpacer M. Renjith’s fine all-round performance (41 and five for 38) helped Thrissur’s Oktopals CC surprise Ernakulam’s Muthoot ECC by 16 runs and enter the first phase semifinals of the Maruti Homes 58th Pooja all-India cricket tournament at the Tripunithura Palace Oval on Tuesday.

Earlier, in the first quarterfinals, Chittoor CC pipped host Maruti Homes TCC ‘A’ by one run.

The scores: quarterfinals: Oktopals CC 153 in 35 overs (M. Renjith 41, Anandakuttan four for 39) bt Muthoot ECC 137 in 32 overs (Subin Babu 52 n.o., M. Renjith five for 38).

Earlier matches: Quarterfinals: Chittoor CC 166 for six in 30 overs bt Maruti Homes TCC ‘A’ 165 for four in 30 overs (M.V. Rijil 57); Pre-quarterfinals: Cycle Brand Kids 190 in 43.3 overs (Shajan Saleem 49) lost to Oktopals 194 for seven in 42.3 overs (Midhun 53, M. Renjith 40).
