VISAKHAPATNAM: Sri Lanka ‘A’ defeated Andhra by 239 runs in a three-day match at the ACA-VDCA stadium here on Sunday. Andhra restricted Sri Lanka to 164 for nine in its second innings but the 229-run first innings deficit was so huge that it needed 394 runs in the 40-over second innings to win the match. It made 154 for six. A.S.K. Varma made 55 and Manoj Sai 31. Even as Chamara Silva scored his second half-century of the match, Israel Raju impressed for Andhra by taking four wickets in the first innings and three in the second. Vijaya Kumar had three in the second innings and two in the first. H. Watekar (35) alone offered resistance for Andhra in its first innings as it was shot out for 106. Angelo Mathews (four) and Chanaka Welagedara (three) were the main wicket takers. Former Sri Lankan captain and manger of the Sri Lanka ‘A’ team Anura Tennikoon was presented a special memento. The scores: Sri Lanka ‘A’ 335 in 88 overs (Kaushal Silva 62, Angelo Mathew 53, Chamara Silva 52, K. Gunawardane 45, Israel Raju four for 52) and 164 for nine in 40 overs (Chamara Silva 51 n.o.) bt Andhra 106 in 43 overs (Angelo Mathew four for six runs) and 154 for six in 40 overs (A.S.K.
