On separatism

This refers to the letter written by M.N. Balachandra (Oct. 27) expressing concern over the biased treatment meted out to MDMK leaders Vaiko and M. Kannappan. What Mr. Vaiko said has been twisted to silence those demanding action in the Sri Lankan Tamils issue. On the contrary, Kashmiri separatist leaders who stoke the fire of animosity are given protection against terrorists at the expense of the people.

A. Thirugnanasambantham,

Coimbatore

Secessionist outfits and separatist leaders across the country have given us sufficient reason to worry about its future. Some parties in Tamil Nadu are supporting the LTTE and its cause. In Kashmir, we have a party that wants self-rule. In both the cases, the political parties have expressed faith in the Indian Constitution. Those who propagate separatism can influence the masses easily. They must be dealt with strictly.

Arun Kumar Sharma,

Bhagalpur
