Welfare boards reviewed

CHENNAI: Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi reviewed the functioning of 14 unorganised workers welfare boards at a meeting held at the Secretariat on Tuesday.

According to an official press release, the Chief Minister directed the senior officials of the Labour and Employment Department to ensure that the government welfare schemes reached the families at the right time for the unorganised workers.

The release further stated that so far 19,59,732 labourers are now members of the welfare boards and out of which 3,10,559 workers’ families have been extended financial assistance to the tune of over Rs. 3.46 crore.

The Chief Minister wanted the officials to continue the welfare measures to the un-organised workers. — Special Correspondent
