DINDIGUL: Hindu Adi Dravida women in the district will be assisted in purchasing agriculture land under a special land purchase scheme by offering funds through the National Scheduled Caste Finance Development Corporation, according to Collector R. Vasuki. In a release here on Saturday she said that this scheme would be implemented through Tamil Nadu Housing and Development Corporation. The main objective of the scheme was to provide agricultural land and various other agricultural inputs, to landless, small and marginal female scheduled castes and tribes farmers. Such a step would also make small and marginal holdings economically viable, bring fallow and waste land under cultivation and step up agricultural production and productivity. Ultimately, it would increase annual income of poor farmers, she added. The eligible woman should be between 18 and 55 years and landless agriculture labourers. Their annual income should not exceed Rs.18,460. Financial assistance to the tune of Rs.2 lakh - Rs. 1 lakh for purchase of land and Rs.1 lakh for land development – would be offered to each beneficiary, 50 per cent subsidy from TAHDCO and another 50 per cent as loan. Those interested may apply to the District Manager, Tamil Nadu Housing and Development Corporation, II floor, Collectorate, with two passport size photographs on or before October 31. For further information, they may also contact 246 0096.
