465 polling stations set up There are 2,115 voters in Dharwad district DHARWAD: As many as 7,339 elected representatives will exercise their franchise in the byelection to the legislative Council on October 31. Addressing presspersons here on Tuesday, Deputy Commissioner Darpan Jain said the district administration had made all arrangements for the smooth conduct of byelection. Mr. Jain said that there were 2,115 voters in Dharwad district, 1,912 in Gadag district and 3,312 voters in Haveri district. A total of 465 polling stations would be set up, he said. He said training had been given for persons involved in the conduct of byelection. Preliminary meetings with representatives of political parties had been held. Adequate police personnel would be deployed, he said. Mr. Jain said ballot papers would be used and voters would have to cast preferential votes by writing 1, 2, 3 before the names of the candidates. He said for each taluk of the three districts, tahsildars, circle inspectors and executive officers had been given the responsibility of conducting the byelection and there would three nodal officers for each taluk. State Agriculture Commissioner Manjunath Prasad would be the observer. Polling will be held from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Counting will take place at Karnatak Arts College in Dharwad on November 3.
