SRI, ideal technology for farmers: Collector

TIRUCHI: The System of Rice Intensification (SRI) has been found to be an ideal technology for farmers of the district to achieve substantial increase in yield, Collector T.Soundiah has said.

Speaking at a function organised to mark the SRI Field Day at Manpidimangalam village in Manachanallur union on Saturday, Mr.Soundiah pointed out that farm implements such as markers and cono weeders were being given at subsidised rates. Besides, farmers were also provided counselling and technical guidance by the Agriculture Department. R.Mohan, a farmer of Manpidimangalam, had achieved a yield of 10 tonnes a hectare, he said and appealed to farmers to take to the technology in a big way to double their production.

The Joint Director of Agriculture M.Ponnusamy and other officials attended the meet.
