Winter sets in … almost

HYDERABAD: Although not official yet, the mood and telltale signs of a long winter ahead have already set in, characterised by foggy conditions during daybreaks and early sunsets in the twin cities.

Already, night time temperatures in the nearby Patancheru in Medak district have begun dipping to 18 and 19 degree Celsius since a few days.

Foggy conditions

City roads, especially the National Highways on the outskirts, are increasingly sporting foggy conditions during the wee hours and late nights. Nippy winds have started to hold sway and daylight is diminishing early compared to long days during summer and the monsoon.

Official word from the Hyderabad MET department is that the city is undergoing a transition phase, from the monsoon to the winter, and by November first week, winter will truly set in. Currently, minimum temperatures are hovering around 20 and 21 degree Celsius and soon could fall to 18 degree C, MET officials informed.

Fog has been setting in the main thoroughfares of Uppal, Nagole and L.B. Nagar in the suburbs and also the Kukatpally road. “Winter starts in Telangana by the middle of November. Owing to cloudy conditions, temperatures during the mornings and late nights have reduced by a degree or two,” MET officials informed.

Intensity of low temperatures would increase between December and February, when the mercury is expected to dip to 11 degrees. “Winter gains strength only between December and February,” they maintained.
