Stolen jewellery recovered

CHENNAI: A suspect wanted by the police for the last 15 years, was arrested on Saturday when he tried to escape after stealing jewellery from a bicyclist on Raji Street, Aynavaram.

A beat policemen arrested the person as he was unable to explain why he was carrying jewellery and a knife . During interrogation, the man revealed that his name was Kuppan alias Kuppuraj alias Ismail from Vijayawada . He was wanted in several house break-in cases in Chennai. Between 2000 and 2005, he had broken into houses in Teynampet, Saidapet, Ayanvaram and Ennore. The accused admitted to selling stolen jewellery in Mumbai and Nellore. Based on the information, a police team recovered 30 sovereigns of gold jewellery from shops in Mumbai and Nellore. Kuppan was produced before the magistrate on Sunday and remanded to judicial custody.
