They took out a procession in protest against killing of Tamils in Sri Lanka CHENNAI: Around 25 members of Chennai Students Association were taken into custody on Sunday for taking out a procession in protest against killing of Tamils in Sri Lanka. The protesters were prevented by the police near the Periyar statue on Anna Salai, and taken to Chintadripet police station. They were later released on bail, police said. Protestors raised slogans on the sufferings of Tamil civilians who were subjected to economic blockade, refusal of humanitarian supplies, killings and targeted by military attacks in the areas of Tamil population by the Sri Lankan Army. Protesters also urged the Union government to send more help to the affected Tamils in the island nation in form of food, medicine and other essential items. Case against police constableThe Kolathur police registered a case against an Armed Reserve police constable, based on a complaint from his brother-in-law, Rajkumar. According to police, Rajkumar had intervened during an altercation between his sister Gomathi and constable Rajendran. During the altercation, Rajkumar was injured when he hit his head on an iron rod. He was treated for the injury as an outpatient in Government Kilpauk Hospital. Rajendran and Gomathi had been married for a little over a year, police said. Kolathur police are investigating. Fire at hotelA room on the first floor of a hotel on Anna Salai caught fire on Sunday evening. Four fire tenders were rushed to the hotel. A sofa set and bed caught fire. The cause of the fire is unknown.
