Two killed in accident at stone quarry

Two workers were killed in an accident at a stone quarry at Kalayar Karisalkulam near Aruppukottai on Sunday.

Police sources said that the lorry carrying nine persons, including two women workers, came to load stones. The lorry had reportedly developed some snag which resulted in a fall inside the 50-feet deep quarry.

Police identified the deceased as Muthupandi (40) of Kalayar Karisalkulam and Kalimuthu (45) of Silukka Nayakanpatti. At least five others suffered multiple injuries and were rushed to the hospital.

Aruppukottai police said that some fishermen from Tiruchuzhi helped in rescuing the victims from the quarry.

Further investigation is on.
