Lorry destroyed in fire

Staff Reporter

VIJAYAWADA: A lorry loaded with unknown inflammable goods was totally destroyed in a fire at Bhavanipuram on Sunday. The lorry was carrying goods that belonged to Bangalore-based Ome Carrying Corporation (OCC) and was on its way to Gawahati.

Vehicle driver, K. Ramana Reddy, a resident of Bhavanipuram, went home for lunch after parking the vehicle on the road side, adjacent to a petrol bunk. Around 4.30 p.m., passersby found thick fumes emanating from the lorry and informed the driver. The goods in the lorry seemed to be inflammable, as the flames continued for about two hours. Four fire tenders were rushed to the spot to putout the fire.

While the lorry was destroyed totally, another lorry parked nearby was damaged partially.

The cause of fire was yet to be established. The One-Town police registered a case.
