Two held for murder of management student

NEW DELHI: Two men, who allegedly murdered a management student after kidnapping him from near Uttam Nagar for a ransom of Rs.50 lakh, have been arrested by the South-West Delhi police.

Dharam Vir lodged a complaint with the police that his 17-year-old son Sandeep, who was pursuing an under-graduation course in management from IITM College at Janakpuri, had gone missing on October 1. The same evening, Dharam Vir received a ransom call from his son’s mobile phone demanding Rs.40 lakh for his release. A day later the kidnappers scaled up the amount to Rs.50 lakh as he had informed the police.

The culprits also made ransom calls from public booths to evade detection and then they used a new mobile number on Thursday, but the police managed to zero in on them and arrested the two on Saturday.

They were identified as Sandeep, a former Central Reserve Police Force personnel, and Shri Om, both residents of Relwa Khanpur village where the victim lived.

The accused disclosed that they conspired to kidnap Sandeep as they were under huge debts and they also knew that the boy’s father had recently sold a plot for Rs. 4 crore. The two kept a watch on the movement of the victim before striking on October 1.

Sandeep was on his way back home when the accused kidnapped him on the pretext of giving him a lift in their car. Upon reaching the Kakrola drain, they allegedly strangled Sandeep and disposed of his body in an abandoned tube-well along Jhatira Road.

The duo then started making ransom calls. The accused said they killed the victim because he knew them well.

At their instance, the police have recovered the victim’s body and his bag.
