ELEPHANTINE TASK: Festivals and VIP functions are incomplete in Kerala without the caparisoned elephants. Instances of elephants reacting violently to insensitive handling are on the rise. The State Wildlife Department is now enforcing stringent rules to ensure that captive elephants are handled in a humane manner.
