ICC to question Waqar’s appointment

London: The International Cricket Council is writing to England and Wales Cricket Board, questioning the appointment of former Pakistan fast bowler Waqar Younis and spinner Mushtaq Ahmed as its bowling coaches in view of their earlier involvement in match-fixing incidents.

After consultation with its Anti-Corruption and Security Unit, ICC Chief Executive Haroon Lorgat would demand in the letter to know if the ECB was aware of Waqar and Mushtaq’s tainted background and had taken this into account when it made the appointments. Waqar was appointed bowling coach to work with England’s high performance squad while Mushtaq was made spin coach in consultancy role. — PTI
