Two students permitted to take exam

Staff Reporter

BANGALORE: The Karnataka High Court has permitted two pharmacy students to appear for examination.

Justice S. Abdul Nazir passed the order on petitions by Priya Das and Purabi Shukla Das from Tripura, who were studying pharmacy in PES College of Pharmacy in Bangalore.

They had petitioned the court after they were denied permission to appear for the Part 2 course examination. They were told by the Board of Examination, Government Pharmacy College, that as they had failed in physics in the qualifying examination, they were not eligible to appear for the examination.

The students said they were selected for the pharmacy course and deputed to Bangalore by the Directorate of Scheduled Castes, Other Backward Classes (OBC) and Minorities, Government of Tripura. They claimed that they had passed the qualifying examination.

Justice Nazir observed that the pharmacy rules did not clearly specify that one should have passed physics examination to be eligible for pharmacy course.

He allowed the petitions and directed the authorities to permit the students to appear for the examination.
