Rajasthan IT knowledge centres to train youth

JAIPUR: The Rajasthan Knowledge Corporation has decided to establish 1,000 “Soochana Praudyogiki Gyan Kendras” (information technology knowledge centres) across the State as part of its comprehensive plan to evolve an institutional mechanism to develop trained youth manpower with basic IT skills.

The training project will begin in January 2009. The corporation – set up by the State Government as a public limited company – will provide IT training to youths through qualified faculty for the certificate courses. The high-quality and low-cost IT literacy programme of three months’ duration will be based on a novel curriculum in local dialects.

The chairman of the Corporation and former State Chief Secretary, M.L. Mehta, said here on Sunday that the Vardhaman Mahaveer Open University, Kota, would conduct examinations at the end of the “flagship training programme”. The curriculum has been christened as the Rajasthan State Certificate Course in Information Technology (RS-CIT).

NASSCOM Chairman Ganesh Natarajan and Global Talent Track representative Uma Ganesh admired the launching of the cost-effective project – comprising class work of two hours a day – during their visit to the corporation’s campus here earlier this week.

The two experts expressed the hope that the unique initiative would bridge digital divide and upgrade the IT skills of youths.

They said the project would make a significant contribution to fulfilling the manpower needs of a thriving software product business in the country.

The Rajasthan Knowledge Corporation is a multi-stakeholder public limited company comprising the Rajasthan government; Maharashtra Knowledge Corporation, Mumbai; University of Rajasthan, Jaipur; Maharana Pratap University of Agriculture and Technology, Udaipur; Vardhaman Mahaveer Open University, Kota; and the Centre for e-Governance, Jaipur.
