Eyes donated

Special Correspondent

SALEM: In yet another incident of organ donation, the eyes of a 28-year-old youth from Chennai, who was killed in a road accident here on Sunday morning, were donated.

Police said that Baskar of Mangadu came in a car to Salem to see his brother Prabhakar, studying in the Law College here.

Accident

He and three of his brother’s classmates went to Yercaud when the car in which they travelled lost control and hit a roadside tree.

Baskar died on the spot while the other three were admitted to the Salem Government Medical College Hospital.

Procedures

Prabhakar decided to donate the eyes of his brother and told the hospital administration, which undertook the necessary medical and legal procedures before accepting the donation.

Recipient

“Already a recipient is waiting for the same,” said one of the senior doctors in the hospital where the post-mortem on Baskar was conducted.
