Teachers to intensify stir

Government fails to invite JACTO leaders for talks

HYDERABAD: With the government failing on Sunday to invite leaders of the AP Joint Action Committee of Teachers’ Organisations for talks to break the deadlock over the five-day-old strike, JACTO members represented their demands to Ministers and MLAs across the State.

They included Marketing Minister M. Mareppa and APSRTC Chairman M. Satyanarayana Rao.

The committee decided to intensify the strike from October 27 by launching hunger strikes, demonstrations and gheraoing Ministers.

A group of striking teachers met Mr. Mareppa in Kurnool with a plea that he take up their cause.

The Minister telephoned his colleague D. Rajanarasimha urging him to resume talks with JACTO leaders.

A leader said he promised to send a message for talks, but it did not come, forcing the organisation to intensify the agitation.

Court notice

In another development, several JACTO leaders were served notices on Saturday evening to appear in the High Court on October 29, after a public interest litigation against the strike was filed by an advocate Raju.

The department also served letters to headmasters and mandal education officers to resume duty.
