Comprehensive plan to be prepared in 10 months Estimated cost of development work is Rs. 14.5 crore KANNUR: Minister for Law and Ports M. Vijayakumar has said that a comprehensive plan for the development of the Azhikkal port here will be prepared. Inaugurating the channel dredging and wharf extension works at the Azhikkal port here on Sunday, the Minister said that the consultants appointed for preparing a report on the development of the port would submit its report in six months. The comprehensive port development plan would be prepared in 10 months, he said. The project for developing the Azhikkal port envisaged developmental works estimated at Rs. 1,500 crore, he added. Awaiting approvalMr. Vijayakumar said that though the Azhikkal port development had been included under the Maritime Development Programme announced by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh two years ago, it was yet to be approved by the Planning Commission and included in the Central government’s developmental programmes. Development workThe Minister said that the State government had started developments works including channel dredging and wharf extension. The estimated cost was Rs. 14.5 crore, he said. M. Prakashan, MLA, presided over the function.
