Watery way: A man shifting household articles from his house at Kannadikkal in Kozhikode on Sunday. The water which entered many houses in the last two days has not receded. Kozhikode: Though there was a reduction in the extent of rainfall in the district on Sunday, people in several areas which are still under water continue to suffer. Several low-lying areas in the city and suburbs including Kannadikkal, Thadambattuthazham, Vengeri and Kalluthankkadavu and other parts in the district are still under water. The authorities are hopeful that the relief camps at different parts of the district can be closed down on Monday if the rain does not strengthen in the next 24 hours. One camp at Payyanakkal has already been closed and people have returned to their homes. As many as 523 people from 69 families were at the Payyanakkal camp set up at the government upper primary school there. DamageThe rains caused extensive damage to property in the district. Crops were also damaged. Revenue officials are estimating the extent of crop damage. Water that entered houses at Kannadikkal and Thadambattuthazham here has not receded. Vehicles had to go through water at Thadambattuthazham and nearby areas on Sunday also.
