Senior citizens seek land

Staff Reporter

CHENNAI: The Federation of Senior Citizens’ Associations of Tamil Nadu has urged the State government to allot land for setting up the National Research Institute of Ageing.

In a letter addressed to the Chief Minister on Wednesday, federation general secretary S.M. Chellaswamy said the government must forward the details regarding the allotment of land for the research institute to the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare to expedite the approval process.

Mr. Chellaswamy pointed out that the State Health Secretary, V.K. Subburaj, had recently announced that the institute would be set up at the cost of Rs.100 crore on the Central Prison land allocated to the Government General Hospital.
