KOZHIKODE: Rare photographs of Mahatma Gandhi, which also depict memorable moments in India’s history, are showcased at the Kelappan Smaraka Auditorium at the Gandhi Griham, Cherooty Road here. By spending a little more they can be conserved better. Gandhi Peace Foundation Trust Member Secretary V.K. Balakrishnan Nair said a meeting of the Trust had discussed the need to conserve the photos in a professional manner. There are more than 50 photographs of Gandhiji here. A rare one, taken in 1928, has Gandhi on a bicycle, on his way to the prayer meeting at Sabarmathi Ashram. The pictures trace various stages Gandhiji’s life including in Porbandar his birth place. The photographs were placed in the Gandhi Griham auditorium more than four decades ago. Mr. Balakrishnan said the trust had got the details on the process of restoration to be carried ou. The proposal was kept in abeyance considering the Rs.25, 000 needed for the project.
