AIDWA for CBI probe
Special Correspondent
NEW DELHI: The All India Democratic Women’s Association will send hundreds of telegrams to the Orissa Chief Minister demanding that the case of the alleged gang rape of a nun in Kandhamal should be transferred to the Central Bureau of Investigation in the light of the public statement made by the victim expressing lack of confidence in the State police.
A statement by the AIDWA here on Saturday said the sentiments and fears publicly voiced by the nun had to be appreciated. The initial reluctance of the police to register an FIR, launch immediate investigation, and arrest the accused needed to be taken into consideration, it said. If the Orissa government did not order the transfer, the Supreme Court must reconsider its earlier stance, take suo motu notice of the nun’s statement, and issue instructions for a CBI enquiry, the statement said.
