Reforms to enhance quality, says Siddiqui

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) is “actively considering” a series of educational and structural reforms to enhance the quality of teachers in the country.

NCTE is a statuary body that looks after the education of teachers in the country. The council plans and implements innovative ways to educate teachers.

In an interview with the The Hindu on the sidelines of a national seminar on ‘Curriculum revision: Teacher Education’ organised by the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan, Mohammed Akhtar Siddiqui, the newly-appointed chairperson of the council said that his priority would be to arrest the decline in standards of the teaching staff and to set up a monitoring system for private self-financing B.Ed. colleges to ensure quality.

“Over the years there has been a dilution in the qualification of candidates selected for training aspiring teachers,” said Mr. Siddiqui.
