Nikhil downs Gnashwaran

CHENNAI: S. Nikhil (Chennai Table Tennis Foundation) defeated S. Gnashwaran (SDAT-AKG) 11-8, 13-11, 13-11, 11-5 in a sub-junior boys’ quarterfinal contest of the Sri Sairam Engineering College’s 11th State-ranking table tennis tournament at the Nehru Stadium on Friday.

Hindu SSS triumphs

Hindu Senior Secondary School (Indira Nagar) defeated PSBB (K.K. Nagar) 49-45 in the final of the CBSE Cluster V boys’ State-level inter-School basketball tournament which concluded on Thursday. The event was organised by Vidya Mandir SSS (Mylapore). The win enabled Hindu SSS to participate in the CBSE National-level championship to be held in Nagpur from December 11 to 15.

The scores: The Hindu SSS 49 (Sai Vigneshwaran 18, R. Ranjith 15) bt PSBB (K.K. Nagar) 45.

D.B. Jain College wins

D.B. Jain College won the Madras University ‘A’ Zone inter-Collegiate volleyball tournament, beating Loyola 25-21, 25-14, 25-19 in the final.

The results: Final: D.B. Jain bt Loyola 25-21, 25-14, 25-19. Semifinals: D.B. Jain bt TMG College of Arts and Science 25-15, 25-14; Loyola bt Guru Nanak 25-18, 25-15.

Shridhar in final

The finals of the DLF Corporate Challenge tennis tournament will be played at the SDAT Stadium (Nungambakkam) on Saturday.

G.V. Shridhar of Fidelity National Information Services defeated Dhruba Ghosh of Cholamandalam 7-0 to reach the final of the individual event.

Gavs Tech’s Vivek Vishwanathan beat Suresh of Symantec ‘C’ 7-1 in the other semifinal.

In the team event, Japer Cornelius and Vivek Reddy from VJS Enterprises qualified for the title clash, defeating Kailash and Roche from Apollo Hospitals Pvt. Ltd 2-0, 2-1.

VJS Enterprises will play the winner of the semifinal between Cognizant Technology Solutions ‘A’ and Keane India Pvt. Ltd.
