Vandalism, damage to public property to attract fine in Maharashtra

Mumbai: An ordinance to impose fine on perpetrators of violence and those who cause damage to public property came into force in Maharashtra on Friday.

The measure was suggested by the Home Department at a Cabinet meeting on Wednesday in view of violence unleashed by Maharashtra Navnirman Sena workers in several parts of the State after the arrest of their leader Raj Thackeray.

Three clauses under the Bombay Police Act, 1951, have been amended to make the existing law more comprehensive. — PTI
