NEW DELHI: The Sports Authority of India (SAI) and Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU) signed an MoU on Friday to lay a synthetic hockey surface at the university campus in Amritsar. The cost of laying the hockey pitch would be borne by SAI while GNDU would look after its upkeep. The hockey field will be used not only by the GNDU players but also for holding national camps and inter-SAI tournaments. Speaking of the initiative, the Union Sports Minister, M.S. Gill , said that SAI would be signing similar MOUs with others reputed institutions in the future to facilitate faster laying of such synthetic hockey surfaces across the country. The minister also said that, the SAI governing body had decided recently to lay 20 smaller synthetic hockey surfaces for broad-basing and promoting hockey on a large scale. Hat-trick by SomyaA hat-trick by Somya helped Golden Stars to a 3-0 victory over Delhi Tigers in a group C match of the DSA B division football league on Friday. In another match, Collegians Club beat Delhi Students thanks to an 11th-minute strike by Naveen. Collegians finished with 13 points from six matches and Delhi Students wound up with eight points. DSA groupingsThe DSA ‘A’ division football league will be played at the Ambedkar Stadium and the Air Force ground, Race Course, here from Oct. 26. The two top teams will be promoted to senior division next year. The groups: Group-A: Ajmal Club, Delhi Cantonment, Friends United, Veterans, Moonlight, Youngsters, SBI, Cosmos. Group-B: Hangadarshan, Rohini, Gorkha Heroes, Goodwill Club, Uttarakhand Club, Budhist Blue Stars, Garhwal Dimaond, Union Club. Group-C: Mughals Club, Royal Club, Young Boys, Uttaranchal Heroes, Paschim Heroes, Royal Bengal, Frontiers Club.
