Staff Reporter

PATHANAMTHITTA: Water level in the Kakki-Anathode twin reservoirs of the Sabarigiri hydro-electric project has gone up considerably following heavy rain water inflow from the catchment areas over the past one week.

According to KSEB Deputy Chief Engineer (at Moozhiyar) Mohammedali Rawther, the reservoir recorded 93.8 per cent effective storage as on Friday morning.

District Collector P.C. Sanalkumar had issued a statement warning those residing on the banks of the Pampa and the Manimala of a possible opening of the Kakki dam shutters.

Mr. Rawther told The Hindu that Kochu-Pampa received 21 mm rainfall on Thursday while Kakki received 18 mm. He said the inflow into the Sabarigiri reservoir during the past 24 hours was estimated at 3,885 million cubic metres (mcm). Power generation at Moozhiyar power house with two generators on Thursday was 2.75 million units.
