Record rainfall for Kozhikode

Kozhikode: The district received a record level of rainfall on Friday. The rainfall recorded from 8.30 a.m. on Thursday to 8.30 a.m. on Friday was 18.89 cm and from 8.30 a.m. to 2.30 p.m. on Friday was 14 cm, according to officials at the Department of Meteorology here.

The rainfall recorded on Friday was the highest so far this year. The current rainfall is on account of the cyclonic depression in the Arabian Sea. The rainfall received during this North-East monsoon was better than the South-West monsoon, which is not the usual case.

The district did not receive copious rainfall during South West monsoon in June, July, August and September. The highest level of rainfall recorded during that period was on June 10 — 7 cm. The rainfall recorded on July 1 was 6.3 cm; August 12, 5.64 cm and September 5, 5.30 cm.

The average rainfall recorded in October is 2 cm. This is above its normal share. The city received good rainfall on October 8, 12, 16 and 17. Rains usually occurred during night hours on these days.
